I’m in such a reckless mood. I should stop hanging out hanging out by myself. Anyways. If they find out, they find out. Whatever.
Last night I finally got back to Iuliia’s after four nights of hotel-floor parties. AIESEC in Ukraine National Conference was held these past couple of days which meant that AIESECers from all over Ukraine came to Donetsk and did whatever they do during the day and then after the days been done everyone gets on the piss… on the 11th floor to be exact. This was the only floor that completely filled by AIESECers and so could run up and down the corridor without disturbing the karate people on the other floors… Anyways. Because I live with Iuliia and she was part of the organising committee I wasn’t able to get back to the apartment every night, so it was bed-hopping and couch-surfing for four nights.
First night, had no idea what was going on, Iuliia just told me to go with these randoms (from Ivano-Frankivsk) and follow them, so I was standing around on the fifth floor for a while where I met Sergey/Karavan (sp?) who is part of the national committee (who proposed me a romantic night with him and a bottle of champagne. I’m not sure if he was being serious, I still don’t quite Ukrainians. Either way I declined) and Monica from Romania and head of AIESEC Central East Europe and chair of the conference. Then everyone to the 11th floor where I was given a drink which I was told to scull/skull and got all over myself because I’m still having trouble with the whole feeding-myself thing. I took this opportunity to get heaps of NZ shirt photos just so I would have something to do. Got about 50ish… I think… I can’t get them to facebook quite yet because uploader is slow and Java is being a pain. Went to Misha’s house with that chick, don’t remember her name but it sounded like Peter.
Second night was awesome. It was Tanya’s birthday (after twelve) who has some cool AIESEC position as well. I used her room’s shower because I was desperate for a shower. She was nice and we had an awesome chat about Ukrainian traditions and a bit about Malaysia as well (she went there for international conference). Then we went to the drinking room 1138 and the room was packed with people and toasts and breadsticks feed to everyone by Umit, dude from Germany. I made friends with Olya from Berdyansk, which is where Adiba is doing her internship. Got happily tanked thanks to the free vodka- Nerimoff. Went back the AIESEC flat and crashed on the couch.
Third night was the most drunk I’ve ever been. I met Nick and Chase- a couple of Americans who are working teaching English in Donetsk through Sarah and Toni who knew the USAers through Pasha, this Polish dude. I took them to the hotel because 1. I wanted company and 2. they were pretty keen on getting a lil bit smashed. Of course the night that you decide you take someone is the night it’s a little bit shit, well it was for the first hour or so because we didn’t have anywhere to sit and drink (we had a bottle of vodka between the three of us). A group of us, including Adiba, went to the fifth floor where there is a foyer-type thingy. Got majorly shouted at by the karate couch… she was a real-life-Russian-version of the cheerleading couch on Glee, even down to the tracksuit. I think there was only one person who could speak Russian there because it was Dmia (from Kharkiv) who was talking to her, which probably wouldn’t have been the best idea because he was already wasted. Anyways headed back up to 11th floor where we met people, talked, blah, drank etc. Nick found a girl who went to America and loved Americans and they were making out on the bed after like 10mins. I don’t know how it happened but had too much vodka. Luckily there was both water and bread thanks to Bo (from Mariupol) who has been the only one to call me Novy (which means ”new” in Russian). Despite the bread and water (and some of this gross cheese) I still ended up sitting in the corridor hood over eyes… looking like a complete drunk. Almost fell a sleep. Volvo (from Ivano-Frankivsk and one of the randoms from the first night) asked me if I was ok and I think he was trying to suggest I go home/find someone in Donetsk to crash with, I was trying to say that I was going home with Nick and Chase, but I was drunk and confused. Chase, Nick and I headed back to Nicks. Chase was quite drunk and we talked for a while both of us still drunk. I found out she really misses USA and she really is uberly homesick. Like really really homesick and so sick of Ukraine. She pretty much hates it. She’s lovely. If the girls and I are still in Donetsk for Christmas (25th Dec) we’ll do a Christmas dinner thing with the Americans.
The fourth night I managed to convince Toni to come with me finally. On the tram to get to the hotel there were a few guys who thought they were funny and tried speaking English to us but appeared to be real dicks. But they started speaking to us and we found out they were staying at the same place, they were the karate people. We got them to guess where we were from which was funny. I’m pretty sure the whole tram was listening to us. Invited them to the floor party, but they got shut-down by their coaches before it got going. Went to the award ceremony thing which closed the conference. Taya was there as well and we finally met the Indian dudes, Amil and Vishant. They were happy to finally find some English-speakers. It does feel a little bit wonderful when this happens. Happily mingled with the AIESECers up and down the corridor, didn’t get as wasted as the night before but we did finish the bottle of vodka we bought. There was a little bit of a police scare so we (Toni and I) headed back downstairs with a guy, Yura (from Ivano-Frankivsk as well) and the three of us chatted. He lived in America for three months cleaning houses and working at 7-11 which I thought was pretty cool. Found out that there wasn’t actually any police scare but all good, got to talk to someone for half an hour, someone I’ll never ever see again but will have shared that small portion of life. That’s pretty much like all of the other people I met who were from different cities, I’ll never see them again. But I did get some of their names and some of the Kontakte (Ukr Facebook) details, so all good. I’m hoping people will tag the photos and then I can add those people… anyways before I knew it it was 5.30am and we (a group of randoms) were outside in the snow, getting tackled by Juao (from Portugal) and messing about in the snow outside Donbass Arena. Quote from Juao- You will always remember me because this is the first time this has happened to you *handful of snow in my face*. When I complained that I was covered in snow he said it’s ok, it’s a story that you will tell your grandkids about… that made me think of Juan and his rules… which I haven’t really been sticking too well… but the last four nights, definitely a story to tell my grandkids. The three of us (Toni, Juao and I) went back to the AIESEC flat where Toni and I crashed in Juao’s bed. I’m pretty sure there was a little something between them two.
Wow, after all of that I’m feeling sad. I’m pretty sure you’re not really reading this anymore… well reading it properly. I wish someone was here with me to share this experience. GAHHHHHH.
Perhaps this trip is sounding really kind of sad but it’s just because everytime I blog I’m usually by myself so I’m quiet-Novia. Missing everyone and everything.
