Added This Week

I was watching Added This Week on C4 which I don’t normally like becausethe songs are normally lame with lame music videos and I only really watch it when there’s nothing else to watch or when I want to watch a specific music video that I know is coming out that week (which I probably have already seen on YouTube.) Anyway I was watching it earlier today and was surprised ‘cos they had a number of interesting songs and a heap of new artists I’d never heard of before.

One of my favourites was Just A Song About Ping Pong by Operator Please. I have to say that I liked the song more than the music video which I found pretty hideous, partially for the scarily young looking drummer and the clashing colours that maded me want to scream 80’s!! I did like the capes though. http://youtube.com/watch?v=qmHqsSblXg0

There was also a New Zealand band who had a pretty neat little music video. I like it slightly more than the song although I didn’t hate the song. It was called The Light however I’ve totally forgetton what the band’s called which means I can’t really find it on YouTube. Cute little story line with cool opening and matching end scene.

The ones I didn’t like so much: The Potential Break-Up Song by Aly & AJ http://youtube.com/watch?v=bqpA5Acc8-c… hm, yes ok. The music video introduction’s pretty cool with paintbrush stroke things-fancy! Then I see the chicks performing the song. Both of them are pretty blondes and it opens with one of them DJing. I hope she can really DJ or it’s George Michael’s Faith all over again. Well not really all over again because artists have been faking it in music videos for ages. And then later on the other is playing a guitar, looks like she can actually play a guitar. Anyway, it has Aly & AJ performing in numerous plain backdrops and lots of hugging which is kinda random for this type of song however like many music videos these days it brings in a rock-style mini-performance. The backdrop scene I dislike most is the white room one… One of the girls looks like she’s missing her top teeth. The song itself is rather catchy, not bad but they  look and sound like they’ve been made in the HollywoodRecords factory. I noted their appearence in ATW because I haven’t really seen any chick groups that appeal to tweens since The Veronicas.

Then I thought the industry is trying to fill the gap ‘cos I saw this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vaZJUzGQJwI Valeria; sounds kinda like a disease.  I caught it half way through the music video so all I saw were two chicks running around this castle playing some game console (which was pink), making some sort of sex video with a pink camera and sitting in a bath wearing like a top thing. This was more raunchy yet princessy but I still thought that she looks like a corporate puppet. When I actually watched it just now I realised that they’re lesbians or are meant to be… Personally I think that the song is crap and the music video is just as bad. The highlight is the big house castle thing. COOL. After some quick research via YouTube I found that Valeria has been around for sometime because she was on the Legally Blonde soundtrack. I know the movie so well that I can pinpoint the exact moment when her song Ooh La La is played. It’s the bit when Elle blows a kiss to Warner’s picture just after the opening credits where it then cuts away to her hanging out in a courtyard thing with her friends Margot and Serena.
